FUNCTIONS OF THE BOARD
This Board is
charged with two broad-based
functions viz:
- To award scholarship and
bursaries and other
financial assistance to
candidates of Kogi State
origin who obtain admission
into institutions of higher
learning in Nigeria and
Overseas.
- To select and submit to
the Executive Governor
through the Hon.
Commissioner, candidates of
Kogi States origin who
satisfy the conditions of
the award of scholarship
overseas.
- To recommend and review
policies and initiate
programme on the award of
scholarship.
- To advise the Executive
Governor on any matter
relating to the award of
scholarship.
- To prepare the yearly
budget for the Board.
- AIMS AND OBJECTIVE OF
SCHOLARSHIP BOARD
Government Scholarship Award
Scheme is aimed at assisting
students to be successful without
much stress in going through their
studies to procure books, pay fees,
complete projects, pay their
accommodation or even help to feed
such individuals as school where
nothing is given.
Against this background,
the specific objective of the scheme
include the following:-
- To reward, promote and
encourage academic achievement
and excellence in any endeavor.
- To develop human resources
for higher level manpower
requirement of the State.
- To bring higher education,
to the reach of many more
qualified citizens who could not
have been able to afford the
acquisitions of such education.
- To enhance access to
education and training in
vocation for people’s in
difficult circumstances such as
the physically handicapped.
- To promote attainment of
self actualization and national
goals.
- To reduce drop-out rate due
to financial constraints.
- To recognize and encourage
merit to gifted people in the
society for specialized skills.
- To assist the scholars
obtain decent and conducive
atmosphere for learning.

© ACHIEVEMENTS OF THIS
BOARD
A number of achievements
have been recorded since the present
staff came on Board in May, 2005.
Some outstanding ones are as
follows:-
(i) A comprehensive students
Data were compiled throughout the
existing tertiary institution in
Nigeria in 2005 and is being updated
every year.
(ii) Students of Kogi Origin
now appreciate in the purchase of
Foreign Scholarship Forms e.g. The
Common Wealth Bilateral Scholarship
Schemes. This is done through the
information disseminated in Kogi
Radio and the News Media every
year. For now, forms are on sale
through the internet.
- Petroleum T.D. Forms are
also sold every year to
interested candidates in
Kogi State who scored
two-one (second-class upper)
and above for Awards to
pursue master or PHD courses
in sciences and Technical
programmes. Wes sold 100
Forms this year for this
programme.
- Bursary Award is being
paid to Kogites now
throughout Nigeria. Payment
for 2006/2007 started in
September and will go round
for those who applied for
the forms.
ON GOING PROJECT
The ongoing project is the
payment of Bursary to all students
of Kogi Origin who bought the
scholarship forms. The rate paid as
approved and directed by the State
Government is as follows:-

N6, 000.00 each
2. Law
under-graduates
N6, 000.00 each
3. General
Degree-undergraduates
N4, 000.00 each
4. HND
undergraduate
N4, 000.00 each
5. Nigerian Certificate in
Education (NCE)
N3, 000.00 each
6. National Diploma
Students
